This was a dream come true for me, and it was something
that I was just bursting to tell people about. I felt like I
needed to wait until dinner was done to let anyone know
I’d won.
Tonight I had my dinner with David Duchovny and Nick Lea.
There are some photographs of us below. Nick and David
look wonderful, my daughters look wonderful, and because
I look awful, it’s taking a lot of courage to post them here.
I really didn’t realize I had that many chins.
Please don’t distribute these pics outside of Haven. Please.
I don’t really want them floating around.
I got an email last Friday, May 8, asking if I could be in LA this
weekend for the dinner. It’s been a year since I won the auction.
I moved some shifts around at work and we flew to LA on
Thursday.
Dinner was at a nice little Italian restaurant nestled
in the Malibu Country Mart. We were waiting in the parking lot
until the time agreed (so we would not seem too eager. Hah.).
One of my daughters said, “Mom, I think that’s him in that car.”
It was a big shiny black Mercedes SUV. When she peered over
at him, he ducked behind the dashboard. Poor guy.
We got out of the car at the appointed time, and the girls and I
walked to the hostess’ desk at the outdoor patio area. I spotted
Nick right away. He looks very much the same, but with some
very distinguished graying in his beard. He came over to us,
shook my hand, then hugged me and kissed me on my cheek.
Then he escorted us to the table and we shared some really
nice discussion about Babz Chula, the woman whose fight
against three types of cancer inspired the charity auction.
Then Nick looked up and said, “There’s David.”
DD came up looking absolutely wonderful. He shook all our hands,
and we sat and visited. I think the waiters got a little exasperated
that we weren’t ready to order. David had a glass of white wine,
Nick had a beer. We all toasted one another. The food was divine,
although I was so distracted, I barely ate half of my spaghetti
carbonara.
DD and NL both graciously posed for pictures and signed
autographs for me and for some friends. When he was ready
to leave, DD leaned over and kissed me, right on my cheek.
His lips were very soft, ladies, and a little moist.
Sigh.
Here’s what I have gleaned:
Blue is still alive, although DD says she’s deaf and probably
almost completely blind. He showed me a picture of her on his
cell phone.
David and Tea had never danced together prior to their
vacation in Mustique, and he said it was ironic that someone
caught the moment and it made its way on the internet. He
said Tea was upset at first at the violation of privacy, but
that he realized it was a good picture of a really happy, carefree
moment, and that picture is now the background on his computer.
Nick is considering putting his song on ITunes. He wrote and
sang a song on “Men in Trees”…I think it was Men in Trees.
He says it’s supposed to take out all the middle men, but ITunes
wants to keep 20% of any profit. He thought this was highway
robbery: DD says, “That really doesn’t sound too bad to me.”
DD thinks my camera sucks. He wants to punch my daughter’s
ex-boyfriend for being a jerk.
The Duchovnys have two dogs and two cats: Blue, Black, Tuxedo
Joe, and Fatty Patty. Miller wants him to get another dog and
seems anxious, according to David, for Blue to die so she can be
replaced. He says he still throws balls ‘really hard’ at Blue, but she
doesn’t catch them now, they “just bounce off her head.”
He thinks “The Joneses” will be released soon but is not sure when
that will be. He mentioned “The Secret” and said “it wasn’t that good.”
DD ate a grilled tuna dish, and Nick had a salad. I sat right next to
DD, and the waiter gave me his plate. I was still a little dazed, and
I forgot what I ordered. DD had to reclaim his plate and made
sure I got my order. I apparently got some sauce on my chin, and
DD wiped it off with his napkin.
Sigh.
Sweet, but a little humiliating. Of course my daughter waited
til we were back in the hotel room to tell me I had lipstick on
my teeth.
Nick Lea got thirsty and drank the rest of Holly’s water.
Natascha will be in season three of “Californication.” They just
finished ep 4. He is loving the schedule, and he would be interested
in doing another season or two, although that’s not yet been
decided. He told me that cable shows rarely last more than 4-5
years because the cable giants figure if someone hasn’t gotten
a premium subscription by then, they aren’t going to get one.
Once subscriptions taper off, cable shows get cancelled.
DD would do another XF movie if it were offered, and said so
promptly when I asked.
Nick just got back from filming an episode of “Burn Notice” in
Miami; he said he didn’t think the ep was all that good.
A middle aged man with graying hair got up from his seat at the
neighboring table, and came over to tell DD he was glad to see
him back in Malibu. They shook hands, and the man left the
restaurant. After he left, DD asked me if I recognized him, and
of course I did not. It was Brent Spiner from ST: The Next
Generation.
Nick says his show “Hawthorne” is being picked up for a second
season, so he and his family have relocated to the LA area. He
actually mentioned what block on which he was living.
DD is staying in one of Chris Carter’s three houses in Malibu. Two
of them are up for sale. He said he was hoping for a nicer house
than the one Carter gave him, but that Dorie didn’t think he could
keep the other house in good enough condition for any prospective
home buyers.
Miller got to see the flukeman episode, and “The Unnatural.” DD
said he was frightened by Fluky and didn’t understand “The
Unnatural”. He was surprised that the girls had been watching
XF since they were young. Holly told him she loved the fluke
ep and the cockroach ep. He explained to her that the flukeman
was the man who had written the cockroach ep.
DD said that what’s really bad with the paparazzi now is that
they shoot video, and they start asking questions, and some
of them are really designed to get a reaction, which is what
the cameras are waiting for. He says it’s hard to hear hurtful
things, comments that are designed to be provocative and
insulting, and not react, but he tries to act calm and ignore them.
DD said he might blog again if it could help another project
along. It didn’t sound as if he were interested in doing anything
regularly. He mentioned again that he really wanted people to
be interested in his body of work and not in the personal stuff.
DD uses his Vespa in New York all the time. He’s not sure how
long they will stay in NY. This was really odd. He said he wasn’t
sure whether or not they were happy in NY.
DD loves Pinkberry (no surprise). He said when he left, he was
going to go home and go to bed early. “This schedule can really
wear a person out.”
He and NL signed several pics and went through the XF Book
(neither of them had seen it before), and DD signed the front,
the back, the front overleaf, and a full sized pic of him from
Tunguska. We could only find one pic of NL in the book, so he
signed that one.
I know there was more; we sat and talked for over 90 minutes,
longer with NL once DD had left to go home. DD reminded us before
he left that paparazzi were often lying in wait in the parking lot, and
to use due caution.

Ясно, почему мы не видим Блю. Что ж, время не остановить...
Рабочий стол Дэвида - рулит! Кажется, мы в свое время предполагали, что Дэвид будет жить в доме Картера
